UNITAR
/ PFT Online Course on
'LEGAL ASPECTS OF PUBLIC DEBT MANAGEMENT'
Twenty
years ago, development was seen as being just about economic growth. The
focus at least in terms of international financial and economic transactions,
was on building infrastructure and stimulating economic growth. Today the
focus has broadened to include poverty alleviation, empowerment, governance,
equity, environment, culture, i.e. to see development as being an integrated
process involving all aspects of economic, social and political life. This
e-Learning course, which is intended for both lawyers and non-lawyers, will
bring to light the importance of the legal aspects pertaining
to borrowing in general and public debt management in particular. This course
will run participants, in a systematic manner, through the entire borrowing
cycle and will highlight the importance of getting timely legal input into
the borrowing process, with the aim of reducing the cost of borrowing and
making a borrowing transaction sustainable.
